Carol Fowler’s profile

Carol’s involvement in Cavalier health began in 2003 with the death of her beloved dog, Bonnie. Since then she has campaigned for the genetic health of Cavaliers and of all purebred dogs. She would like the proper regulation of dog breeding in the UK so that the health and welfare of all breeding dogs and their offspring is prioritised.

Since 2005 Carol has worked with her MP, Geoffrey Clifton-Brown to achieve this and is now a member of the Associate Parliamentary Group for Animal Welfare (APGAW).

In 2008 Carol appeared in the BBC 1 documentary, ‘Pedigree Dogs Exposed’ and has provided evidence for three of the welfare reports into the breeding of dogs. She has actively campaigned for the implementation of the official BVA/KC health screening schemes for CMSM and Mitral Valve Disease (MVD).

Cavalier Campaign <+>

In 2009 Carol created her website, Cavalier Campaign: www.cavaliercampaign.com which tells the story of Bonnie and Rosie, her two dogs; outlines the genetic health problems suffered by Cavaliers; and gives advice to owners.

Carol is a member of the Expert Panel of the Advisory Council on the Welfare Issues of Dog Breeding, set up in 2010, and a trustee of Cavalier Matters charity.

In 2011 she created the DogBreedHealth website: www.dogbreedhealth.com which provides health information on over 135 dog breeds . She hopes the website will help prospective dog owners to make sensible choices about what breed of dog to have as a pet, and to be aware of the potential for breed related diseases.

In 2012 Carol won the CEVA Pet Lovers Welfare Award.
