Penny Knowler: I was christened Susan Penelope but at 2 years of age my parents acquired a rescue German Shepard called Susan and from then on my family called me Penny to avoid confusing the dog. Over the years we have owned a variety of dogs including a miniature poodle and a German shorthaired pointer. Our current love is a ‘Glaswegian Bitsa’ rescue dog.  

I have worked voluntarily as a Research Assistant for Clare Rusbridge since 1999 and together we have investigated the hereditary basis and developmental aspects of Chiari-Like Malformation and Syringomyelia particularly in Cavalier King Charles Spaniels and Griffon Bruxellois.
